Inner Landscapes
I am curious about the act of escaping yourself. Numbing. Distracting. The feeling when anything, but the silence of your thoughts, will do. The tv on constantly. Or the scroll.
For me its dinner time when it most noticeable. 5pm-8pm when the whole day becomes grating for me. The heavy needs of those hours and my waning energy, patience and stamina.
Sometimes that act of escaping leaves us strangers to our inner landscapes. We often think, that thinking, or even self analyzing, is a form of tuning into ourselves. Talking about our current issues with a close friend. Even therapy. But is it? Is it the same as a deep physical, focused tune into You?
Yoga is often how I find this. This emotional, mental, physical place where I deeply tune in. Oh hello upper back, ribs, shallow breath. Oh hello the irritated feeling, the itching to move on to something else. The bombardment of thoughts, oh hello, you are quite busy. I start to feel the connection to the tension in my upper body to the general tension I feel mentally, emotionally. I start tuning in. Oh hello, its been a while. Deep breath.
Any kind of movement practice can be meditative, I don’t want to sell the cult of yoga to everyone. Dancing is another movement practice I use often. Not so much for a deep tune in.. but more for moving intense energy through me. When I am full and it all feels a little bit TOO MUCH. I dance and dance and dance. Just in my kitchen. Often cooking and doing dishes, maybe I’ll wipe the cupboards while I’m here, dancing to this song. Dancing out those feelings. That overwhelm.
My personal practice and the work I get to do, offers me a lot of insight into the ways we numb, the effects on our body. How can we cultivate ways back into our inner landscapes? Deeper than our thoughts. Deeper than our mild ache in our back. How do we slow down, drop in and feel ourselves? And what part does that play in our bodies ability to heal? In our ability to navigate our mental health?
Hello, thanks for being here, welcome, lets explore.
